How to Make Your Lifestyle Session Great!

Here are some quick tips…

CLOTHES

  • Think color pallets; not matchy matchy.

    • Pinterest has some wonderful color pallets to get inspiration from.

    • Neutrals are always best!

    • Think about what you will be doing with your photos. If you are framing them, what is the color pallet in the room? Will it be used for Christmas cards? All of these things can and should play into your decision.

  • No thin stripes! They’re distracting and can also show up looking really odd in photos.

  • Avoid brand labels if possible. (Small, pocket labels are generally ok).

  • Be you! Wear something that best represents who you are and what you’re comfortable in.

“POSING”

  • The beauty of lifestyle photos is that its very flexible and relaxed. If your kids are playing, don’t worry about it! That results in some gorgeous and genuine photos, too.

  • Don’t worry if you feel awkward. We all do in front of a camera! Leave it up to me to coach, prompt and photograph that awkwardness away.

  • Proximity is key. During the session, be over-the-top close. Tickle your kids. Hug your partner. Laugh and smile a lot. Basically, just have fun and enjoy those around you!

  • Do NOT feel bad if your kids are being “bad” (in your eyes). I promise, it always feels like your kids are being worse than they actually are and reprimanding them during the session usually puts a damper on things. So just embrace the crazy for the time being ;) I promise, I wont judge (mostly because mine would be acting the same way haha).

  • Bribery is A-Ok! Food is a great motivator for young kids (and hey, I would smile and wear dressy clothes if someone promised me a Snickers). So bring along those puff, cheerios, gold fish and suckers for rewards along the way.
